Tl201Thallium 201

Thallium-201 is a radioisotope used in single photon computed tomography (SPECT). It has a half-life of 74 hours. It is a cyclotron produced isotope delivered as Tl-chloride for injection. It is mainly used in myocardial perfusion imaging.

To produce Thallium 201,
we recommend this production route:

  • Recommended

    Cyclone:

    Cyclone® 30 XP

201Tl is produced in two step process with  203Tl(p,3n) 201Pb and Pb decays to 201Tl.

    Target:

    Nirta® Solid target 30 MeV

203Tl is electro deposited onto copper target in IBA Solid target station.

IBA provides only the irradiation station equipment.

    Chemistry:

    Dissolution & Purification

The irradiated target material is then dissolved and purified to isolate 201Pb and after proper growth time the 201Tl is extracted and purified from the stock solution. Enriched 203Tl can be reused for further plating.
